Johannesburg - Day 1

game park

I made it to South Africa!!
This has been a life-long dream of mine to get to come here & it's happened and I'm stoked :)  yippeee!

The flight was fine, the hotel is very nice and I just spent a wonderful day with a dear friend.  We headed out early which was a good thing - a perfect day & drive out to
Sun City .  A resort about a 2 hour drive from Johannesburg, with lots to see, do, eat & drink.

After a tour of the Sun City grounds and the Palace

we headed off to Pilanesberg Game Reserve, where I was able to experience an African park and got VERY close to some very cool animals.  I was asked later by someone who had been to this park if I'd seen "anything"?  Apparently when he went, he saw one elephant on the drive out.  Errrr, sorry, mate, I saw a herd of them on the way in, then zebras, rhinos, hippos, giraffes, wildebeest, and kudu.

A colleague said to me online the other day that there is nothing like the experience of the sun setting over an African game park.  I now know exactly what she meant.

How much fun is this?  What a great way to spend half a day after enjoying the sites of Sun City!  I couldn't have asked for a better itinerary, better company, better weather - what a brilliant intro to South Africa.

As you can see I had the best time & I am now psyched for the rest of the week.
I couldn't have done it today without my buddy Jester.  Thank you, thank you, a hundred times, thank you.

What a cutie, hey? The tour guides you're asking about are in Cape Town, that's later this week.

Jester was a personal tour guide who did a rather *exceptional* job ;) grrrrrrrrrrrrr

*sigh*

Getting TOTALLY jealous... and I suppose, by now, you know JUST how many hot, HOT Bears there are in South Africa!!!? :-)

Though I seem to have met quite a few on Facebook, there's not many on BearWWW - they must all be quite shy... :-)

You know what? I met a few and the few I did meet were QUALITY (not quantity) which made this trip super-special. I was enjoying the country so much I didn't want to set myself up for any potential mini-dramas by trying to meet online guys. Maybe you know how it can happen, you get messed around, dinner that was meant to happen doesn't and you end up having room service on your own. I didn't have any of that in South Africa, they were real gentlemen! ;)

Great posting
Lovely blog entry, we originally chose it as blog of the week in our 26 Jul newsletter on Kulula, and have listed it as one of our blogs of the year. Keep up the great writing.
